About Me

Hello! My name is Rochelle Alleyne and I am a junior at the University of Florida. I am double majoring in Telecommunications (Specializing in News) and Political Science (Specializing in International Relations). For as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for Journalism. However, my passion for politics was ignited after taking an introductory international relations course during my first semester at the University of Florida.

As a child I watched my parents work hard to make sure my siblings and I had access to the best education and opportunities they could provide. This has taught me to be humble, but also aware that mediocrity is not an option. It is with this mindset that I approach whatever task put before me.

While in school, I work as a reporter for WUFT-TV, a University of Florida and PBS affiliated television station. In doing so, I am able to hone my skills in writing, interviewing, reporting, editing, hosting, and preparing content for our online presence at wuft.org. I also currently work as a night-side reporter for the Gainesville Television Network (GTN News), which provides me with real-world experience as a reporter, which includes doing live shots.

During the summer of 2013, I worked as an intern for CNN Newsroom. In doing so, I had the opportunity to pitch, write, edit, research, and gather elements that were used on CNN's air. This internship allowed me to learn more about myself as a person and as a journalist; and by working alongside some of the best journalists in the business, it challenged me to raise my caliber of work. My absolute favorite part of working there this summer working as a field producer for Suzanne Malveaux's June 2013 interview with Former President Jimmy Carter.

I am also a contributing reporter, producer and anchor for the bi-monthly "Zion Buzz" Webcast which is produced by various members of the UF Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (or the Gator NABJ). In my spare time, I also find time to work as a reporter/producer for Florida's 89.1 WUFT-FM--a NPR North Central, FL affiliate (and University of Florida radio station).

Ultimately, I hope to work as a news reporter/correspondent in Washington D.C. and eventually as a network news anchor.

Thanks for reading! Go Gators!
